Notebook That Has a List of New Year's Resolutions
Here's to a healthier 2019 and making your New Year’s Resolutions stick!

The holidays have come and gone. All the gifts are unwrapped, the champagne corks have been popped, and you’re back in the routine. But wait, let’s make that a new routine because we’re now in resolution season.

“New Year’s Resolution” can be a bit of a dreaded phrase, but a recent study concluded that those who make a resolution are 10 times more likely to experience a positive life change after six months compared to those who wanted a positive change but refused to make a resolution. The takeaway? Just making a resolution is a good first step. And for a lot of people, that resolution is to exercise, eat a better diet, take care of number one, and to live an overall healthier life.

So, you’ve made your health resolution, you’re committed, you have a reward all picked out. Here are a few more tips to help you stay on the health train.

Every little bit counts

Yes, a long workout is great, but between work, the commute, grocery shopping, spending time with loved ones, and just general life, you don’t always have the time to take a couple of hours to exercise. But, don’t let that deter you; a little exercise is better than a lot of nothing. If you’ve got 15 minutes, do a quick bodyweight strength workout or yoga session at home. You could also hit up the fitness center—many of our properties, like Griffis Highline, have Fitness on Demand which allows you to choose workouts from 5 to 60 minutes.

Go full-body

If you’re in time-saving mode or just like a good all-over workout, full-body sessions might be the way to go. Plus they burn more calories in less time. Try a kettlebell workout in the state-of-the-art gym at Griffis Pine Avenue. If cardio is your style, swimming is the ultimate all-around exercise. Griffis Belltown features a lap pool so you can get a few laps in whenever the mood strikes.

Achieve inner peace

Relaxation increases blood flow, helps you face stress, gives you more energy and increases your metabolism. It’s a win, win, win, win. Even five minutes of deep breathing can make a big difference. Find your center with some yoga practice in one of our dedicated yoga rooms, like those at Griffis Union Station and Griffis Canyon Creek.

Be a weekend prepper

It’s simple: when you have healthy foods ready to eat, you don’t turn to that easy-to-grab bag of Doritos as often. So spend some time on the weekend prepping healthy meals and snacks as part of your diet for you to easily enjoy for the rest of the week. Residents in Austin, Texas can check out nearby Farm to Market for an amazing selection of fresh produce, and our Seattle, Washington residents are just a stone’s throw from Valley Harvest International Market and Trader Joe’s.

Find a new neighborhood haunt

There are healthy restaurants out there, and at the very least, restaurants that offer healthy diet options among the menu. Make it a point to visit these places and steer clear of Chicken Wings R Us. Try a place like Walnut Cafe in Boulder, Colorado; they have a special “Boulder Fare” section of the menu with healthy eats.

Here’s to 2019! Good luck with your New Year’s Resolution and stick to it!
